Ben Hunter gallery operates across two floors of exhibition space in the heart of St James's, London and mounts exhibitions of Contemporary and 20th century artwork. Dealing on both the primary and secondary markets, the gallery is able to maintain a link to the art of the past whilst working with critically engaged and vital work being made today.
Ben Hunter represents Soojin Kang, Clementine Keith-Roach and Christopher Page and regularly collaborates with artists from outside the gallery to stage ambitious, multidisciplinary exhibitions of new work. Intergenerational exhibitions of contemporary and historical artwork are also central to the gallery’s program and sensitive dialogues are proposed in order to consider new ways of looking at the art of the past and present.
Beyond its exhibition program, Ben Hunter works privately with collectors and institutions. Historical artworks handled by the gallery are selected based on their quality and beauty as well as their importance and relevance to the art and ideas of our time.
Prior to opening his eponymous gallery, Ben was in partnership with Orlando Whitfield as Hunter / Whitfield. Before this he was a director at Robert Bowman Gallery where he specialised in 19th and 20th century sculpture with a particular focus on the works of Auguste Rodin, Alfred Gilbert, Henry Moore and Barbra Hepworth.
In 2014 Ben co-authored the most extensive private catalogue of works by Auguste Rodin ever written and has sold works to many of the worlds leading museums including the Musée Rodin, Musée d'Orsay, Art gallery of Ontario, Victoria and Albert Museum and the Museu de Arte Moderna in Rio de Janeiro.
